Fuzz Face Gallery
For your viewing pleasure only - these FuzzFaces were sold many years ago.

Here are several FuzzFace castings that I inherited from Crest Audio in 1990, when Dunlop took on production of FuzzFaces. I wound up with a few boxes of these castings, along with bottom plates. All of them were rejected for one reason or another, but most of them are near-perfect. In order to demo some of my FuzzFoot mods, I took the time to build up different versions of the FuzzFace using these castings. The FuzzFoot is just a Fuzz Face with a couple tweaks, so you're basically getting a custom built Fuzz Face. instead of giving them serial numbers, I gave them names.

Lou is a blue PNP Silicon/Germanium Hybrid, just like the default fuzz in Captain Coconut. This baby has four knobs: Vol, Grit, Fuzz, and Trim. Trim allows you to cut back the signal level at the input of the fuzz, just like turning down the volume knob on your guitar. No silk screening, labeled with a white paint pen. Warm, articulate, lots of control. The ultimate custom fuzz.

Mervin is a PNP Germanium fuzz, using a pair of custom matched NOS transistors. The sound is as warm and vintage as it gets. The addition of a GRIT control allows a wide array of mid-60's vintage FuzzFace sounds. Cleans up well with your guitars volume knob, puts out a smooth lead tone with tons of character, but not overpowered with gain and sustain.

Blue and Red are custom-built examples of the two different classic versions of the Fuzz Face. Blue is a PNP version with medium/low gain Germanium transistors. Red is an NPN version with high gain Silicon transistors. If you've ever wanted to explore the differences between Germanium and Silicon type Faces, this your golden opportunity. A lot of TLC went into building these two Fuzzies, and the sounds are amazing. A Fuzz Face lovers dream!

Blue is a PNP Germanium fuzz, using a pair of custom matched NOS transistors. The sound is as warm and vintage as it gets. The addition of a GRIT control allows a wide array of mid-60's vintage Fuzz Face sounds. Cleans up well with your guitars volume knob, puts out a smooth lead tone with tons of character, but not overpowered with gain and sustain. Casing is blue with silver sparkles and a clear coat.

Red is an NPN Silicon fuzz, using a pair of custom picked BC109C transistors. The sound is bright with lots of gain and sustain. The addition of a GRIT control lets you dial in tones that range from smooth to choppy, recreating many of the elusive fuzz sounds that Jimi got on his later live recordings. Hot, intense, BOG all the way. Casing is red with silver sparkles and a clear coat.

Sam is a blue NPN Silicon BC109C High gain silicon fuzz. Grit on an internal trimmer. DC connector added by request.

Bart is a red NPN Silicon BC109C High gain silicon fuzz. Grit on front of unit between the eyes.

Blue Angel is a blue NPN Silicon with a GRIT pot on the front. Identical to Red (see above). This casting got half way through the silk screening process, only getting the IN OUT lettering.

Bill is a gray vintage germanium PNP. Look at the transistor on the right - it's almost an inch long! It has two trimmers on the board - Input trim and GRIT. Warm and smooth, but able to sing.

Ned is a gray PNP Silicon / Germanium hybrid. Looks just like Henry. It has a GRIT knob on the front, right between the eyes. Classy looking, rare gray casing. This is the standard Captain Coconut fuzz.

Dylan is a red NPN Silicon BC109C High gain silicon fuzz. It has one trimmer on the board - Input Trim. Grit on front of unit between the eyes. No silk screening, labeled with a marker. Hot, intense, BOG all the way. A real eye catcher in your pedal board!

Bud is a blue PNP Si/Ge Hybrid, just like the one in Captain Coconut. Includes a GRIT trimmer on the circuit board.

Eric is a red NPN Silicon BC109C High gain silicon fuzz. It has two trimmers on the board - Input Trim and GRIT. Hot, intense, BOG all the way.

Al is a blue PNP Silicon / Germanium Hybrid. GRIT control on front of unit. No silk screen on front. More flexible than other versions, capable of smooth fuzz tones and singing leads. Nice blue color - very rare. This is the standard Captain Coconut fuzz.

Bob is a red PNP Silicon / Germanium hybrid. It has two trimmers on the board - Input Trim and GRIT. More flexible than other versions, capable of smooth fuzz tones and singing leads. Set and forget GRIT and Input trim settings. This is the standard Captain Coconut fuzz.

Henry is a gray PNP Silicon / Germanium hybrid. It has a GRIT knob on the front, right between the eyes. One trimmer on the board - Input Trim. Interesting look, rare gray casting. This is the standard Captain Coconut fuzz.
