PARADOX TZF

THROUGH-ZERO-FLANGER

Here exerpts from emails I've received. They are from early TZF owners. The first one is long, there are short ones below!

Brian 10/02.

Dave,

This box you sent me is definitely not a clone of anything; I think people will be trying to clone it in the near and distant future. I got it on Monday. Read the manual, started playing the TZF with a modified Sovtek Big Muff in front going into my little practice amp setup.... It was on a really cool setting right out of the box, neg regen House Burning down kinda sound. This is what I have looked for, to no avail, everytime I have pulled a flanger out of the box (before inevitably taking it back) or tried one out. Lost a good 2 1/2 hrs "skipping over the threads in the fabric of time". Then I had to go to work, damnit! lol... Hence the title of the e-mail- just fcking incredible!!!! "In many ways, Paradox TZF can be thought of as the first and only real flanger pedal." Incredibly bold statement that is 100% truth.

Got home from work Tues. morning around 6am, played with it some more. Started messing with the exp pedal on manual, saw where that was going and decided to play around with the whole pedal before getting stuck on the exp. The envelope control is very cool to say the least. After getting up, playing with it all day, I decided at about 4am to put it through my Sound City 120 w/ Sunn 4x12 (really cool neighbors... :) I've been out on the Tarmac ever since. Big jet plane noises and psychedelic vacuum sounds trying to tear the walls of my house down. Went to practice tonight, playing through my Hiwatt and other effects, big smiles all around. Dwayne, the drummer, is every bit as impressed as me (every bit as big a Hendrix freak as me as well). BTW, put me back in line on the list, I can wait this time. I told Andy, our singer/guitarist whose jaw was on the floor, that I would pay 1/2 for one for him for X-mas (just got married w/kids, kinda strapped) All for one one for all... lol.

Got home tonight, delved into the exp pedal a litlle bit; very cool on speed as well as manual. I would definitely be interested in the ramp up/down pedal. Got some really strange, trippy kinda talk-box sounds using my wah pedal w/neg regen. It is an amazing and beautiful sounding effect. I've waited a long time for this. If you want criticism I can't find any as of yet. OK, maybe one... I don't want to turn the damned thing off!!! It sounds too cool. Definitely a "magical flanging sound" as described. Hands down the best sounding, built, and playing unit I have in my rig. This one will never leave. Will be trading some pedals w/AnalogMan very soon for a CC2. Again, thank you very much for everything and I do feel privileged to have gotten it so soon, 007 no less- cue spy music... Sorry about the rambling.... lol

Thanks!
Brian

Hey man, got the TZF and I absolutely LOVE IT! It's always been an effect I like but was never satisfied UNTIL NOW! I love it in the effects loop in stereo, it just swirls around my head. And the purple that you chose for the body just GLOWS in a dim light screamin' PLAY ME!

...btw your TZF does a damn fine job at a chorus with manual all the way down. Now I have your CC2, a wah retrofit in a RMC-3 and now the TZF. What do ya have next for me??? ;)
Well anyway, another fine product Dave, thank you very much, plus I can't wait for people to ask me what in the hell is THAT DEVICE?

a satisfied customer,
Dustin

.....I'm getting better at finding the cool sounds. Found one last night that i love. With a control pedal for speed I tilt it back to its slowest and the effect completly dissappears and then I tilt it forword to blend in the flange tone. Was working on a new song and started doing that and the whole band was blown away. Im really digging the Stereo Leslie tones from this thing. You should play that up more.

Dave,

WOW! You've done it again. This pedal kicks ass! I just got it today from our friendly neighborhood mailman. Plugged it in with the Warr 8-string and went for it. Sounds good with both the guitar frequency range and with bass.
The explosion sound you hear in the background is my mind blowing.
Cheers-rob

Charlie, 11/11/02

Dave,

Got it on Friday. What a beautiful thing! Unbelievable! The Leslie/chorus sound is fantastic on bass, too! Love the TZF! Thanks!

Mike, 11/15/02

Hi Dave,

I got it tonight!! It's fantastic!! Everything I had hoped and more. I have been playing with it for about an hour. The tones that are available and the possibilities are so endless. It's definately the greatest flange sound I have ever heard but the leslie and chorus and phase tones are endless!! I wasn't expecting that. I am proud to be using your stuff. Can't wait to get it in the studio this week. Thanks a million.

J, 11/18/02

Hi,
First let me just restate I love my TZF, i cannot turn it off, this effect is the sweetest and one of the most orignal effects I have ever heard. I cannot wait until I get to use it in a live sutuation or on a recording.
thanks

Dave,
The more I play with my TZF the more I love it. This is brilliant. I was just curious if you could make a chart showing the settings for all the sounds you put on your web page. If not im just mostly interested in the tzf4.mp3. Ive been having a field day dialing in different sounds with this. All I can say is its absolutely amazing.......never did I fathom that a pedal could make sounds like this.
Thanks so much,
Jake

Jesse, 1/6/03

I just got it today when I came home from work. I haven't had a huge amount of time to play with it, but in the three hours that I have, I'm already in love. This is by far the most versatile, expansive, and original flanger I have ever used. The serial number is TZF0212069. Thanks for making a great product available.

Bonjour,

Jesse

Al, 1/7/03

Dave,

This is the first and only flanger/phaser/chorus whatever that I have ever actually liked, and I've tried a shitload of them. What a f*()(*& awesome device. Even a simple setting for the intro to Little Wing can be done so it sounds right now, not cheap and tinny or nasty like every other device I've tried. No device has ever nailed that before , that rich organic sound.. I know I havent tried your vibe, but I know Hendrix did it with a modified real leslie in the studio, no vibe has ever sounded right doing it that I tried. I need to find some Kravitz settings (like Are you gonna go my way) and some others.. Damn this thing rocks..

Thanks so much
Al

Rob, 1/11/03

Hey Dave,
Just a quick note to say I'm still really enjoying the TZF. One thing I discovered is that it sounds outstanding with an Analog Man Sunface. Big ol'fat fuzz and some very cool flange. Wowzers!-Rob

Dean, 1/18/03

Dave,
I've only had this one day. Played with it about an hour or two last night and am in love with it already. I tried all the presets
that came with the manual and quickly found a couple that are truly awesome! I also messed around with the controls on my own, not sure what I did, but came up with something REALLY cool that I can't wait to record with very soon. Thanks for taking the time to build such great pedals right! Anything new in the works? I already own the CCII as well and just ordered a Teese RMC3 w/FoxRox retrofit from Analog Mike.

~Dean

Paul, 1/20/03

Oh well, it's the best flanger ever!!! It kills the ****tone ? flanger, it's really beautiful sounding and since this is the first foxrox pedal I've ever bought I can't help wonder what you hvae up your sleeve next. Any ideas?
Again, it's really awesome and I'm a very jaded guitarist who's owned no less than 200 pedals including all the rare ones and this is THE flanger. Congrats and thanks for making a perfect pedal.
Paul

Terry, 1/30/03

Hi Dave,
I spent a lot of last evening with the TZF. I have to say that I usually shy away from boxes with more than 3 knobs, and it is going to take some time to really get used to this. But it gives some great sounds. I have been through various flangers, looking for something that I had in my mind, ending up not using the flanger because it wasn't there in the box. Your TZF however, it has so much in it. I am not sure that the name Flanger really does it justice because it's bigger and broader than the name suggests. Keep up the good work.
Cheers, Terry.

Dave

I've had the TZF a few weeks now. I have to tell you that it is beyond fantastic. My expectations were unrealistically high but it still exceeded
them. In my opinion, the TZF transcends its genre - it's not just great, it's 'right' in the way that Leo and Les got it 'right'. I will never use
another flanger. My previous favourite was the Deluxe Electric Mistress but I've probably owned a dozen flangers over the years. Now the quest is over. Thank you so much for producing a cordon bleu product in a McDonalds
world.

Aran

Scott H, 3/13/03

Hi Dave,
Now that's a flanger! The expression pedal is great too, and it also works with my moogerfooger ring modulater!..........Messed around with the Paradox some more - wow! I haven't even heard it in stereo yet and I'm pretty blown away by how big and sweet it sounds! Really versitile too.

Jet, 3/17/03

Dave,

I received my Paradox TZF in January 2003 (from Che'), and I have to admit that this is the best flanger I have ever owned! I have owned MXR, ADA, and Electro Harmonix, but the TZF blows all of them away! I especially enjoy the positive and negative polarities, the depth on the modulation section, and the regeneration for the audio section. I feel that these features are excellent! The optional pedal for speed and manual controls is something that I have never seen before in a flanger floor effect unit. I think this is a nice added touch! .... Thank you for signing both the Captain Coconut 2 and the Paradox TZF. I look forward to seeing what you will be creating in the future. I think you should build a chorus, as the chorus setting on the TZF is one of the best chorus sounds I have ever heard, and leaving the unit on the chorus setting would be limiting the flangers ability.
Thanks again,

Jet
