OCTRON CLIPS

Here's a collection of Octron sound clips.

Jazzoctave.mp3 A sample of what Octron's lower octave sounds like in the hands of a true jazz player. This guy doesn't usually play through effects, so the voice has been altered to protect the guilty but the guitar is exactly as it sounded. Just imagine a fat old guy with his pants pulled up to his nipples. Listen to this man play... and listen to how the octave tracks.

Funkyoctup.mp3 Here's a live clip from "play that funky music". The octron is set for a mix of direct and octave up, just enough to add an evil overtone to the solo. Funkyoctup2.mp3 Same as above, different gig.

ORTT2.mp3 Screaming upper octave! Ever try an octave up pedal only to wonder where the uppper octave is? It just sounds distorted.... that won't happen with Octron. Listen to how pure the octave sound is, it seems to take on a life of it's own.

TSUoct clean 1.mp3 This clip starts out with clean guitar to show how things sound before Octron is switched in. Then Octron is switched in with a mix of direct guitar and Octave DOWN.

TSUoct up down tone down.mp3 For this clip I rolled the tone down on the guitar. For the first part is upper and lower octave only, no direct. For the last two passages there is some direct guitar dialed in.

TSUoct all three bass.mp3 This clip has mix of octave up, clean and octave down. It's pretty tame because the amp is clean. This becomes massive with some distortion and loud volume. Towards the end of the clip there is a passage of Oct up with some direct which is followed by the last passage, a bass line (on the same guitar) with some clean mixed in. The bass line has some TZF flanger going to add a little color. Sounds like an 8 string bass!

Drum machine clips - let's jam along with some preset patterns.

OCT222.MP3 The clean signal is up and a small amount of upper and lower octaves are mixed in. This is a cool sound because the tone of the guitar comes through, and with the lower octave mix at a low level, slight flubs don't sound so bad.

OCT444.MP3 We're 'breezin' through this one! I don't expect Mr Benson to be impressed. Anyway, this clips features the clean signal with a hint of upper octave blended in. It gets very dynamic- a light touch on high notes makes the upper octave stand out, while hitting harder and playing lower masks it. Using OCTRON this way you can actually get some warm and pretty Octavia into your clean sound.

OCT777.MP3 This one is stupid and idiotic but when it ends you'll wish it kept going. A blend of upper, lower, and clean.

Video

Here are a couple of short video clips made on a digital camera. I was lazy and wanted to make some clips of the sounds I was getting, so I opted for the digital camera instead of running through the mixer, etc... So you get to see me playing my favorite strat guitar, my lefty Carvin Bolt kit.

OCTR clean with oct down.MPG

This clips features the clean signal with some lower octave mixed in. No upper octave. It's an attempt at some funky Jeff Beck type sounds.

OCTR oct up clean.MPG

Octron's upper octave section has some teakability. There are two internal trimmers, one for gain and one for tone. This clips features just the Octave up part, clean and lower octave are all the way down. I dialed in settings that pretty much nail the Tycobrahe Octavia tone.

OCTR Oct up drive up.MPG

This is Octron's upper octave with the internal gain cranked and the tone set brighter. Listen to that upper octave sustain!

OCTR updn.MPG

Octave down with some octave up mixed in. I have a lot of fun with this one. If you listen closely you can hear the lower octave skip as I get a little sloppy but it tracks perfectly during the cleaner stuff.

OCTRON CLIP

I sat an noodled at bedroom level and recorded it. Then I fed it into the computer, chopped it up, and then mixed it back together. The clip was recorded on a minidisc with one of those little stereo mics - if you listen closely you can hear my pick hitting the strings.

The guitar is a Carvin SC90 and the amp is Vox Cambridge 30. My OCTRON prototype was in the form of perf-bard with wires going every where... and I fed it into a ZIM with an H9 card. So what you're hearing throughout this clip is OCTRON through an overdrive. There will be more clips to show OCTRON clean, distorted, etc...
