FWR User comments (updated 11/16/01) Check out a fuzz!

Below are some user comments from people who have purchased a Foxrox Wah Retrofit (FWR). They're all lifted from incoming emails. I chose to respect people's privacy and not use full names, but if for any reason you would like to get more info from of any of them, write to me and I'll pass your request on to them. davefox@foxroxelectronics.com

I got it in last night and took me about 20 minutes to install it, about 10 minutes to tweak it in and all I have to say is that's what that wah should sound like. I ran it in front of the germ pedal and it does sound better in that location now. I like the little extra gain the unit provides because I not only use the wah for the wah effect but also as a tone boost/shaping device. By working the volume knob on the guitar I get a nice treble boost to a wicked growl at my fingertips. It really excites the preamp of the Vox AC15 into some very nicely textured tones and the wah effect is less abrasive. I have yet to try my 2 amps together to hear the wah effect mixed into both of them (I used to run it in only one amp). I have a gig next week and I'll try it then. Thanks for your help and for getting it out to me so quickly. I'll be submitting a good review of your product to harmony central soon.

Zack on 11-7-01. He sent is sent his VOX 847 in for the mod, and bought an NPN Silicon BC109C fuzz, built into a blue FuzzFace casting.

Hello Dave,

I got the fuzz and wah today. Great looking fuzz face! Well, I plugged them into my JCM 800, cranked it up, and almost shit my pants! Tone heaven. My band and I just got done with one of our most inspired band practices to date, can't wait to gig. I was initially excited when I read that you could mod a wah to work with a fuzz and the excitement was well founded, I absolutely love the articulate wah sounds this combo makes and your cool demeanor only adds to the greatness. You did a great job on the fuzz as well, and I am very satisfied with your work. Hats off my friend. After our gig on the 13th, I will e-mail you with a more in-depth review.

Thanks again,
Zack

Hi Dave,
Just a quick note to let you know that the FWR's arrived ok. I've already
installed one in my RMC-1 (thanks to the excellent pics and instructions on
your site) and it's working great.
I haven't had a chance to crank it through my JTM 45 head yet but I can
really hear a much more pronounced wah through the London fuzz even at low volume. I'm looking forward to hearing what the other kit does to my Jen wah with the Fasel.
Thanks again Dave.

Hi Dave,

I have received the wah retrofit unit, & installed it into a Hammond 1590B box. There's no room for a stompswitch, but I figured that would not be needed for my set-up. I used a little resistor on the input, not sure of the value, but it sounds just fine. It does what I thought it would do, simply allow the wah to operate a full range of frequencies, when plugged into a fuzz pedal. I used an Austone Fuzz Nutz, as that's what I own, that's anywhere near a Fuzz Face. Thanks for making that device.

Hi Dave,

Thanks so much for the quick turnaround on my wah mod! It's great. My wah now even works with my Fuzz Factory. Yikes! Without your mod the FF just squeals when the wah kicks in (of course the FF has quite a propensity for squealiness anyway).
With your mod it responds very well even at some pretty weird settings. To tell the truth i haven't tried it with some of the more normal fuzz
face type settings.

That is a selling point in itself, for hardcore Fuzz Factory fans being able to use a wah with a Fuzz Factory is a real boon. When i get a few more spare minutes i'll post a review on Harmony Central.
Your mod is the stuff. Thanks again.
